Marangu Route is one of the oldest and most preferred routes on Kilimanjaro. It is the easiest path on the mountain due to its gradual slope and direct path.

It is the only route on Kilimanjaro as it has hut accommodations for the hikers making it popular among the tourists. Marangu Route is therefore also known as “tourist route".

Marangu Route has three hut accommodations: Mandara Huts, Kibo Huts, and Horombo Hut. These hut accommodations provide bunk beds. There are 60 bunks beds each at Mandara huts, Kibo huts, however, there are 120 bunk beds at Horombo Hut.

Day 1:  From the hotel you slept to Marangu Gate (6,000 ft/1,830 m/), to Mandara Huts (2,740 m/9,000 ft) 7 km, 4-5 hours

Stop At: Kilimanjaro National Park, Kilimanjaro National Park, Kilimanjaro Region
After registration at the Marangu Gate you will start hiking through montane forest which is a dense forest, sometimes it called rainforest. Here you will get a beautiful view on dense forest animals, birds and other natural impressions of the forest. Halfway you will rest and have lunch before reach Mandara Hut where you will unpack, rest, also bathing and wait for preparation of dinner before you sleep.

Day 2:  Mandara Huts (9,000 ft /2,740 m) to Horombo Huts (12,100 ft / 3,690 m/) 11 km, 6-8 hours moorland/heath land

Stop At: Kilimanjaro National Park, Kilimanjaro National Park, Kilimanjaro Region
After our breakfast which will be at 7:30am we will hike on the different zone which is called moorland/heath land. Here you will get different views of heath land/moorland which has giant lobelias and groundsels and also small shrubs which are the main vegetation of moorlands. Half on the way you will get lunch, where you can get amazing views of Mawenzi peak and also Kifinika Mountain which it was being used by the chagga tribe for their traditional believes. Arrive at the Horombo Huts, where you can see Kibos summit. Rest, unpack, and wait for dinner. Bathrooms with running water are available. You may start to feel the effects of altitude here, and to aid your acclimatization, you can choose to spend an extra day resting at Horombo or climbing to a base camp below Kibos sub peak Mawenzi.

Day 3:  ACCLIMATIZATION DAY

It is a very best day after you wake up you will get breakfast and then starting hiking for acclimatization via Mawenzi Peak to see the Zebra rock which are 13779ft/4200m, spending time to gain altitude and enjoy the sceneries of the Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak plus beautiful flora and fauna, afterward getting back for lunch and take your time rest to keep the energy for the next hiking day.

Day 4:  Horombo Huts (12,100 ft/ 3,690 m/) to Kibo Huts (/15,400 ft /4,695 m) 9 km, 6-8 hours Alpine Desert

Stop At: Kilimanjaro National Park, Kilimanjaro National Park, Kilimanjaro Region
After the breakfast, you start hiking on a different zone again which is called alpine desert crossing through sweeping saddle which connects mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Here it will be more chill (cold) because of the blowing of the wind between these two peaks Kibo and mawenzi. When you stop for lunch, and later when you cross this surprisingly large saddle, you can examine the summit climb up Kibo that you will be starting in just a few hours. Be careful to notice and let your guide knowing about any signs of altitude sickness. Unpack rest and wait for dinner at Kibo Huts where you will sleep.

Day 5: Kibo Huts (15,400 ft / 4,695 m) to Uhuru Peak (/19,340 ft / 5,895 m) then descend to Horombo Huts (/12,100 ft / 3,690

Stop At: Kilimanjaro National Park, Kilimanjaro National Park, Kilimanjaro Region
This day is a challenge day where you start hiking to the summit (Uhuru Peak 19340ft), it’s going to be colder and sometimes to be challenged with the altitude sickness like little headache or feeling nausea. Wake at mid night, you get light breakfast and preparing for the summit, make sure you have all warm gear/ clothes with you. Leaving at 12:00am switchback up steep scree or possibly snow, probably we will reach at Gilmans Point 18640 ft/ 5861m which is at the rim of the crater where we will have a view of the crater and the eastern glacier, from there you start walking on the rim of crater crossing Stella Point to UHURU PEAK 19340ft/5895m which is the highest peak in the Mountain Kilimanjaro. Probably we will be there around 6:00am to 7:00am during the sunrise. We will spend time taking pictures and you will enjoy climbing and reach highest peak in Africa, and you can congratulate yourself too. Afterward we start descending back to Kibo Hut having a lunch and proceeding descending to Horombo Hut where we can have dinner and rest.

Day 6:  Horombo Huts (12,100 ft/ 3,690 m) to Marangu Gate (6,000 ft/1,830 m) to the hotel you reached.

Stop At: Kilimanjaro National Park, Kilimanjaro National Park, Kilimanjaro Region
Wake and get a breakfast, then you will pack, and start descend through the moorland to the Mandara Huts. You will Have lunch there or at the gate, then continue your triumphant recessional down through lush forest to the park gate, which you should reach around 2 or 3 PM. Remember to tip your guides, cooks, and porters, since you will be leaving them here. A vehicle will take you back to the hotel, where it is definitely time for celebration!
