    Kyoto, Higashiyama. Furukawacho Shopping Arcade was once called the east Nishiki and flourished. From that era, it has become a retro shopping street that continues to carefully cherishes connections with people, and you would feel it has the same relaxing atmosphere as before. Since customers and shopkeepers are mostly acquaintances, are they shopping or just talking? Such a scene is the daily life of the Furukawacho shopping Arcade. It's not a place where everything is available, but please come and visit to the Furukawamachi shopping street, and touch a real Japanese life in Kyoto.

    Chion-in is connected to Hōnen (1133-1212), the founder of the Jōdo Shū (Pure Land Sect) of Buddhism. Today, with over 7,000 temples, and since 1523, Chion-in has been the head temple of the Jōdo Shū.

    Also, Chion-in is highly appealing from a cultural standpoint, since it received donations from the Tokugawa shogun (supreme military commander) during the early Edo period, and was built by the master artisans of the day. ーExcerpt from Chion-in websiteー

    It was erected in the Heian period in 1876 (876).
    Enshrined in Awataguchi, one of the ”seven exits of Kyoto”, it has been revered as a god of departure and guardian since ancient times, and even now there are people who dedicate ema or buy talismans when departing on a trip.
    In addition, Kaji-Jinja shrine a god of steel and blacksmithing and old swordsmiths also enshrined, is popular recently.
